Homemade Pineapple BBQ Sauce
There is nothing that says summer quite like a barbeque! The smell of the grill, lots of delicious food, warm sunshine. Its the best way to spend a summer afternoon.
I love BBQ sauce but even from the time I was little my family has had a hard time buying it. My sister grew up with a corn allergy (and in the 90s everything had corn!) and now my own kids have allergies to gluten and food dyes. We try and avoid artificial sweeteners as well. This can really limit your ability to buy a good sauce. Here are the common ingredients we try to avoid found in BBQ sauce:
- seed oils
- caramel coloring
- high fructose corn syrup
- natural flavors
- MSG or msg derivatives
Just to name a few! If you can find a sauce that avoid these, you will likely find a teenie tiny bottle for WAY too much money. So what’s a better solution? Make it!
This sauce comes together really quick! Most of these ingredients you would already have in your pantry. Some BBQ sauces require super special ingredients, not this one! You can have fun with this too if you want. Swapping powdered garlic for real garlic, same for the onion! Its really versatile and flavorful! But the best part: it makes 3-4 cups of sauce for just a few dollars! That’s a huge savings!
So the next time you have a group of friends over for a BBQ, give this a try! You can prep the sauce a few days in advance and let is set in the fridge too. I like doing this because I think the flavors really develop of the a few days, huge bonus.
Hope you enjoy this as much as we do!
