Quick Ham and Cheese Wraps Kids Actually Love
super easy
These quick ham and cheese wraps are one of those simple recipes that can be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even a snack. They take about 10 minutes to prep, bake up golden, flaky, and cheesy, and can even be made ahead and frozen so you always have something easy ready to go. With buttery crescent dough, savory uncured ham, and melty gruyere cheese, they taste like something you picked up from a bakery or coffee shop — but they’re made at home with cleaner ingredients.
I started making these because my kids love the ham and cheese croissants from Starbucks. And while they’re definitely delicious, those drive-through stops can add up quickly — and the ingredient list isn’t always what I want to feed my family on a regular basis.
So instead of making another coffee shop run, I started recreating something similar at home using simple, real ingredients and a smart shortcut: crescent roll dough. It gives you that flaky, bakery-style texture without having to make dough from scratch. Add slices of uncured ham and rich gruyere cheese, roll everything up, and bake until the cheese is melted and the outside is perfectly golden.
As a busy mom who loves cooking but also lives in the reality of sports schedules, homework, and chaotic evenings, I’m a big believer in half-homemade recipes that make dinner easier without sacrificing quality. Using a high-quality store-bought ingredient paired with real, preservative-free foods lets you get something warm and homemade on the table without spending an hour in the kitchen.
Another reason this recipe stays in my regular rotation is that it’s incredibly freezer friendly. I often assemble a full batch ahead of time and freeze them so they’re ready whenever we need a quick meal. They’re perfect for busy mornings, after-school snacks, quick lunches, or even those nights when everyone is hungry and dinner needs to happen immediately.
The best part is that my kids say they’re just as good — if not better — than the Starbucks version, and I know exactly what went into them. For a busy family, that combination of convenience, cleaner ingredients, and a recipe everyone actually eats is a huge improvement.
