Putting the Dish Together
For this dish, you can use either bone in or boneless pork chops, but we find that bone-in pork chops come out fork tender and sometimes the boneless can produce tough pork chops. We also suggest buying thick cut pork chops. If you don’t you will have to reduce the cooking time a bit. By slow cooking these chops, it produces the most delicious gravy without a ton of additives. This easy meal with simple ingredients is the ultimate comfort food. If you don’t have an all in one cooker we highly suggest the one here.
Ingredients:
- 2 TBSP. olive oil
- 1 onion chopped
- 4 bone-in thick cut pork chops
- 2 TBSP. einkorn flour
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 cup chicken broth or chicken stock
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
- 5 garlic cloves crushed
The way to get this recipe has creamy gravy starts with creating the flour mixture. In a small bowl combine the flour, and salt. Press this mixture onto both sides of the pork chops. This is what will give you the nice seared outside, but also help thicken the sauce to create the gravy. If you don’t use all of the flour be sure to save it. In a separate small bowl, combine the onion powder, garlic powder and dried thyme.
Not it is time to get that all in one slow cooker warmed up to 325f. If you don’t have an all in one slow cooker you can simply complete this step in a large skillet over medium-high heat. In your skillet or slow cooker pour in the olive oil and once it is hot add in the flour coated pork chops. Cook for 3-5 minutes on each side until slightly browned. If you complete this step in the slow cooker remove the pork chops. At this point, add in the chopped onion and chicken broth. Then, layer the pork chops on top. If you have and flour left over sprinkle this in. If you used a large skillet, be sure to scrape the pan and add in all the bits.
To finish this dish off, sprinkle the pork chops with half of the seasoning mixture that was created in the small bowl. Flip, and do the same thing to the other side of the pork chops. This will ensure while it is slow cooking the pork chops will soak in all of the flavors of the seasonings. The final step is to add the garlic on top of the pork chops. This garlic creates the most amazing scent that your entire family will be asking when dinner will be served! Place the lid on the crock pot pork chops and let it do the cooking. Cook on low for about 6 hours.
When the pork chops are done, remove them from the slow cooker and let them rest. At this point whisk the gravy that is left in the bottom of the slow cooker. If it isn’t thick enough, you can turn the heat to high and let it thicken about 5-10 minutes. The gravy ends up loaded with flavor! Our favorite way to serve this dish is over mashed potatoes with a side of green beans. However, you can also serve it over egg noodles with any of your favorite vegetables.
